Downs now regards himself as an example in his family, saying that he “changed from a boy to a man” on the day his mother died “. Therefore, for him, the pressure of winning basketball matches and performing on the court is insignificant compared with the pressure he is facing in his personal life.

Downs said, “although I am not a parent yet, my niece and nephew also regard me as a father. After returning home, I felt more pressure. I tried to make my nephew a man and my niece an independent and strong woman, which was the pressure of life. Don’t think about what to do beyond the level, I do it to make a living. I have been doing this since I was young, which is nothing to me, just starting to work another day.”

He talked about his mental health: “My mental health is a daily process. I train hard and become stronger every day. I thank God for giving me strength every day so that I can continue to grow up and make these progress as a man and a player.”

Downs’s mother died on April 14, 2020 due to infection with covid-19.

During the 2021-22 regular season, Downs averaged 24.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.1 cap.
